What this site knows about you

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies and uses no cross-site trackers. You are not shown a consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

We count page visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which records the page you opened, the site that referred you, your approximate country, and your browser and device type. It sets no cookie, uses no device fingerprint, and does not follow you between sites. Nothing it records identifies you.

If you subscribe, we store your email address with Buttondown in order to send you the letter, and for no other purpose. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone else. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing deletes the address.

The legal basis is your consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time, which does not affect anything sent before you did.

The reading room remembers your place in a text, your chosen type size, and anything you have saved, using your own browser's local storage. That information stays on your device. It is never sent to us and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Works in the reading room are fetched from Wikisource by your browser at the moment you open them, which means Wikimedia sees that request in the same way it would if you visited the site directly. We do not receive or store the text.

The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, who keep the usual short-term logs of requests for security and reliability. That is their processing rather than ours, and it is covered by their own terms.

Under the GDPR you may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for a copy, or object to its use. In practice the only thing we are ever likely to hold is a newsletter address. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
